Many New Friends!! (And Sicknesses)

The 12 hour flights, this time, were the most relaxing part of the whole situation. Sleeping in airports, flights stopping their taxi to let people off, bus drivers threatening to leave you in Cologne, sometimes it seems like the world wants to throw a few wrenches at you along the way (if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball, right?)

Its a good thing that there are so many wonderful people to meet along the way who help you dodge all the wrenches! From an awesome Chris giving me the "London In A Day" tour, to meeting someone on a bus who walks you all the way to the train platform you need to be at, instead of going directly home after an overnight bus ride. I am eternally grateful to all of those people who helped this stinky, lost, sleep-deprived skier to get to her destination in one piece. One very, very sleepy piece. St Anton, what a beauty!

One thing I love about the ski community, is its ability to open its arms to anyone who randomly rolls in, and I am no exception. This last week and a half has been a flurry of activities and meeting new people, experiencing the mindset behind safety in the mountains here, and skiing deep, deep pow! The deepest of the pow.

Austria was hit with some of the biggest snow its seen in 30 years. Of course, our response to this snow that mother nature threw at us was by making sure were were at the lift, bright and early, ready to go. Most days were a bit delayed with Ski Patrol working their arses off to get things open, but, it was well worth the wait, because every day I have skied so far, has gone into the top 5 deepest days of my life. I cannot believe how lucky I am!

With this huge volume of snow and wind, has come some scary avalanche dangers. We have kept things as safe as possible by mostly only skiing the gondolas lower down, keeping in the trees and on lower angle terrain. Unfortunately there is lots of people out there that have no idea of the risks they are taking in the sport of their skiing. I am sorry to hear that, already, too many people have lost their lives to the snow this winter season.

As the snow continued to fall, so did I, when I was struck with a healthy dose of gastroenteritis (thanks again Hampus for dragging me to the doctor on what would have been the most epic pow day for you). As I come out the other side of this, here comes the classic beginning of the season chesty cough (cheers universe!). I guess the only thing to do now, is to stay in bed, enjoy the snow falling outside the window and get better for the first comp of the season coming up, Kappl Paznaun 3*!
